GLUE
Directed by Alexis dos Santos
A comedy/drama set in a small town in vast, empty Patagonia – the
gawky Lucas, a young time bomb of hormones, boredom, and family alienation,
hangs out with his hunky and horny best friend, Nacho, and bespectacled,
mousey gal pal, Andrea. The threesome cope with the trials of burgeoning
adolescence by getting high and getting off, mostly, in variations with
each other.

"A beautiful and subtle coming-of-age drama!"
THE ADVOCATE
" Powerful and poignant! Stunning!"
Gary Kramer, INSTINCT MAGAZINE
"This
award-winning feature by first-time filmmaker Alexis
Dos Santos reflects an intensity possible only by a talented
risk-taking cast and a story rooted in the director's
intimate knowledge of his subject."
FILM SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER, NEW YORK
"Beautifully and earnestly
portrayed, and filmed with such an ethereal other-worldliness,
there isn't a moment in the movie you feel you've seen
done quite this way before."
Rene Rodriguez, THE MIAMI HERALD
"Captures the adolescent experience
with rare and bracing
veracity!"
Michael Rechtschaffen, THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
" Alive
with truth and discovery! The writer-director's camera is as fluid and sticky
as the sexuality
of his characters!"
Ed Gonzalez, SLANT MAGAZINE
"Stunningly erotic!"
Charlie Olsky, INDIEWIRE.COM
"A richly poetic ode to budding adolescent sexuality!"
Roberto Friedman, BAY AREA REPORTER
“If you are going to see anything at this year’s
festival see GLUE!”
Erica Marcus and Anita Bowen, SF BAY TIMES
"(Director Alexis) Dos Santos also creates a
tactile emotional space - the nexus of heartache, loneliness, and punk attitude
- with utter realism."
Gary Kramer, GAY CITY NEWS
"Alexis Dos Santos's GLUE, from Argentina, serve(s)
as an example of how to refresh and make strange a perennial subject. There has
lately been a flood of coming-of-age movies, but what makes GLUE somewhat exceptional
is its intimate, lyrical atmosphere and its almost abstract, painterly use of
video."
A.O. Scott, THE NEW YORK TIMES
“As enjoyable and riveting as it is naturalistic.
Hip, introspective and amusing!”
Eric Moore, PHILADELPHIA INT'L GAY & LESBIAN FILM FESTIVAL
“The underlying honesty of the story and the performances
make (Glue) resonate
long after it’s over.”
Mike Caccioppoli, CC2K
“…Director Alexis Dos Santos creates a touching,
bitingly funny, and very real portrait of coming of age. With a killer soundtrack
and daring
performances by some of the new stars of Argentina´s next generation of
actors, Glue will take you back to those awkward and excruciating teenage years
like no other film.”
LATIN WAVE FILM FESTIVAL, THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, HOUSTON
"Awkwardness, obsession with sex and homoeroticism have all been seen before
in the context of growing up. But Dos Santos' vision is one of the more honest
ones. Perez Biscayart (gives a) magnetic performance."
Jay Weissberg, VARIETY
“Exhilarating! GLUE is that rare kind
of filmmaking so attuned to pleasure and spontaneity that it tickles your palate,
opening up new possibilities
about how to live.”
Johnny Ray Huston, SF BAY GUARDIAN
"GLUE rides high on its zest for life and discovery
which is felt in all areas; from the acting, the mise-en-scene and the cinematography
through to the editing.
What an adventure it is!"
EUROPEANFILMS.NET
"One of the most inspired choices made by the (New
Directors / New Films) festival programmers was to open with its strongest selection,
the Argentinian "Glue", a beautiful, hazy look at adolescent longing
in rural Patagonia. Underscored by The Violent Femmes, with inspired angst and
sexual ambiguity in a sun-baked, dusty world, the film is a sort of positivist "Kids" that
truly loves its protagonists."
Charlie Olsky, INDIEWIRE.COM
"We wanted GLUE to open the (New Directors / New Films)
festival because it showed off so well exactly what we think of when we think
of new directors. Every moment of the film shows the energy, vision and experimentation
of a young, exciting filmmaker."
New Directors / New Films Series at MOMA Curator Marian Masone from the Film
Society Of Lincoln Center speaking with Charlie Olsky of Indiewire.com
"Its cast of supple young non-pros run through their
characters’ sensual self-actualizations with soul-and-body-baring bravery."
EYE WEEKLY
"A sticky, poetic reflection on carnal pleasure intensely
keyed to the wonderful-miserable experience of being an outsider teen."
Ed Gonzalez, THE VILLAGE VOICE
"Upsetting all clichés about horny teens, particularly
Latin teens, Glue is rhapsodic about the sloppy highs of adolescence, filmed
in a dreamlike haze. Slow-motion and saturated colors give the film the texture
of a wet dream from
which you never want to awake."
David Lamble, BAY AREA REPORTER
"A! Explorations into sexual orientation make this a hot and edgy coming of age film. But it’s the cast – Nahuel Perez Biscayart as Lucas, Nahuel Viale as Nacho and Ines Efron as Andrea – that makes this drama unforgettable! "
